A few hours of work over the weekend can help surfaces, fixtures, and other features last longer while also improving how the property looks. Many projects require only basic tools and can be completed without moving furniture or arranging outside help. Tackling maintenance in small doses can also prevent minor issues from becoming larger, more expensive repairs.

Find Curb Appeal in the Details

Improving curb appeal doesn't always require a major project. Small details often shape a visitor's first impression and can make coming home each day more enjoyable. Pull weeds from walkways, trim branches and shrubs that block windows, and repaint a front door with chipped or peeling paint. Pressure-washing siding and walkways can also remove years of dirt and staining in a single afternoon, often producing a more noticeable difference than homeowners expect.

Don't Overlook Neglected Areas

Some parts of a home receive little attention until something goes wrong, which makes them especially worthwhile weekend projects. Cleaning the gutters before the rainy season can help direct water away from the foundation and reduce the risk of costly damage. Sealing the driveway, checking the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system, and looking for drafts around windows and doors can help protect the investment you've already made. Staging and decorating won't have as much impact if the home's basic systems and maintenance needs have been overlooked. Buyers touring the property with an agent may also notice more of these details than sellers expect.
